6th Grade News March 4 - 8, 2019

General News
Binder Check Dress Down Day - Monday, March 4th
Students who earned at least 300 binder check points over the month of February will be permitted to dress out of uniform this Monday. As usual, students who are out of uniform must still adhere to CCSD/HMS guidelines.

Saturday School
Saturday School is in full swing! This is an excellent opportunity for ALL students to prepare for the Georgia Milestones by working with their teachers in a relaxed, small-group setting. Saturday School operates on a rotating schedule so that students get to see multiple teachers and review multiple subjects each time. Transportation is also provided. IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO GET YOUR CHILD SIGNED UP! If you would like your child to attend or would like more information, have them get an application from their teacher, or contact either the front office or Ms. Ward (wardt@clarke.k12.ga.us). The following dates are left for Saturday School: March 23, March 30, and April 6.

End of Quarter 3
This week will be our last week of Quarter 3. Report cards for Q3 will be handed out at Parent Teacher Conferences. Please ensure that your child has turned in all of their assignments and work by the end of the week!

Spring Break - March 11-15
Spring Break is from March 11-15. Please note that the following Monday (March 18th) is a teacher workday and there will be no school for students that day as well. Wednesday-Friday of that week (March 20-22) will be early release (1:30pm) for students due to Parent Teacher conferences. You should be receiving communication from your child's teacher regarding conferences next week before we go on Spring Break!

Sign Up for the Panther Prowl 5K! Students and staff members who enter the Panther Prowl have an opportunity to win a prize pack to be announced after the race. Mr. Naughton will buy pizza for any student that beats him in the Panther Prowl!

Mardi Gras Night
A Spanish Mardi Gras Night will be held on Monday, March 4th, from 6:00-7:30pm in the cafeteria. It will be a night of fun for the whole family, with student work and presentations on display! Supplies

If your student is in need of a binder or school supplies, they must complete a supply form and get a parent signature. These forms need to be turned into Mrs. Fassbender. Students can get forms from Ms. Rohrbach, Mr. Holland, or Mr. Watkins. 

Parent Conferences
Parent, student, teacher conferences will be held on Wednesday, March 20th - Friday, March 22nd. Please be on the lookout for information from your child's 6th period teacher!

Math

ELA

Science
Students are continuing with Unit 5--Weather and Climate. We will discuss heat capacity, winds, and unequal heating of land and water this week! Please make sure your student is focused and engaged in class as this is our hardest unit of the year!
  • Binder checks on Thursday
  • Tutoring with Ms. Rohrbach on Tuesday from 4:00-5:00pm. If students failed their Unit 4 test and want to retake it, they need to come to tutoring on Tuesday.

Social Studies
Students will begin their unit on Canada this week. The focus during this unit is on Canada's geography and physical features.

Spanish
Students will continue with Unit 2: Spanish Speaking Countries this week. The unit test will be on Friday, March 8th. It will cover the Spanish speaking countries and capitals and the map of Latin America.

  • Tutoring with Ms. Willingham on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:00pm - 5:30pm. 
Advanced Spanish
Students will continue with Unit 7: Describing The Classroom.
