6th Grade News: December 7-11th, 2020

 General News

Q3 Registration
Registration is now open for Quarter 3 (January 19 - March 10, 2021). In-person and virtual learning models will be offered for all Pre-K through 8th grade students. Please take time as a family to make a decision that works best for your situation and your student. Registration for Quarter 3 will close on December 18, 2020. Please note that if you do not select an instructional model, your student will be registered for in-person instruction.

Because virtual and in-person staffing models are determined based on registration numbers, principals will not be able to accommodate moving students from one model to the other when Quarter 3 begins.

SOME IMPORTANT NOTES:
  • The instructional model you select will remain in place for the duration of Quarter 3 (January 19-March 10, 2021).
  • Student registration is conducted through your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account. Your child's current teacher may call you to confirm the model you select over the next few weeks, as we need accurate data for planning purposes and staffing.
  • Please register your student(s) for their desired instructional model (virtual or in-person) by Friday, December 18th. If you do not select an instructional model, your student will be registered for in-person instruction.
  • If you select Face-to-Face as your student's instructional model, please indicate if your student will require bus transportation.
HOW TO REGISTER:
  1. To register the instructional model preference for your student(s), login to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account and make the appropriate selection.
  2. Guided instructions are available on the main page of Infinite Campus under "District Announcements."
  3. If you have not created a Parent Portal account or need to reset your Parent Portal account password, please send an email to campus@clarke.k12.ga.us for further assistance.
For more information and details, please see this letter from our interim superintendent, Dr. Thomas.

Q2 Progress Reports - Grades Due This Week!
Teachers will be posting grades this week for Progress Reports for Quarter 2. These provide the 4.5 week notice of how your child is progressing in their classes for this quarter. If you have questions or concerns about your child's grades, please reach out to your child's teacher(s) - a full 6th grade faculty contact list is provided at the bottom of this blog. Please check Infinite Campus frequently so that we can address any academic concerns early!

Switching Your Instructional Model for the Remainder of Q2
As a reminder, students who have currently signed up for Face-to-Face (F2F) instruction for Quarter 2 may switch to the Virtual model at any time, but not the other way around. This is to help ensure that F2F classes remain at sizes where social distancing is possible. If a F2F student does choose to switch to Virtual, they will remain Virtual until at least January 19th. Please be sure to contact our school registrar, Ms. Perez, at pereza@clarke.k12.ga.us if you would like your F2F student to switch to Virtual.

Attendance Policy for F2F Students
If a student is signed up for face-to-face instruction and they are not physically present at school, they must be marked absent, even if they log into class from home on Zoom that day. This is for a number of reasons, the most important being safety and public health -- if we have someone in the building test positive for Covid-19, then we need to do contact tracing, which means we need an accurate count of students physically in class.

While we still encourage F2F students who are absent to log into Zoom from home if they can (so they won't miss instruction), these students will still be marked absent.

Safety Reminders for Face-to-Face Students
While we're all working on building new habits and routines during our face-to-face return, there are a few safety-related rules and expectations that we must follow. Families of face-to-face students, please remind and discuss with your child the importance of wearing their mask correctly (above the nose) and social distancing as much as possible. We are all in this together and want to make sure we are protecting each other!
