6th Grade News March 19 - 22, 2019

General News
Parent Teacher Conferences
Hilsman's parent conferences will take place this Wednesday-Friday, March 20-22, with Thursday the 21st serving as the late night of conferences. These three days will all be early release - students will be dismissed at 1:30pm in order allow more time for teachers to meet with families. Something should have been sent home last week by the teacher holding your child's conference, but if not, something will certainly go home on Tuesday when we return from spring break. If you would like to reach out to your child's teacher, the complete 6th grade faculty contact information is listed at the bottom of this blog.

Families are such an important link in helping children grow, develop, and improve in their schooling experience, and we welcome this opportunity to meet with you and discuss your child's progress. It is our goal as a school to have 100% participation!

End of Quarter 3
The second nine weeks of school have come to an end, which means teachers will be submitting final grades for Q3 report cards in the coming days. Report cards will be given out during parent teacher conferences. If you have questions or concerns about your child's grades or academic standing, please contact their teacher(s). A full contact list for the 6th grade faculty is listed at the bottom of the blog.

Students and staff members who enter the Panther Prowl will have the opportunity to win a prize back after the race. Last but not least, Mr. Naughton will buy pizza for any student that beats him! You can get a sign-up form from the office, or simply click here. (Registering by March 17th guarantees you a t-shirt!)

Saturday School & PSP
Saturday School is in full swing! This is an excellent opportunity for ALL students to prepare for the Georgia Milestones by working with their teachers in a relaxed, small-group setting. Transportation is also provided. IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO GET YOUR CHILD SIGNED UP! If you would like your child to attend or would like more information, have them get an application from from their teacher, or contact either the front office or Ms. Ward (wardt@clarke.k12.ga.us). Remaining Saturday School dates: March 23, March 30, and April 6.

Parents, any students that have turned in a PSP Application have been accepted. PSP runs every Monday and Tuesday from 4-6pm. Students will receive a snack, and bus transportation is provided for free. Please call the school if you have any questions or concerns.

Field Trip Request!
Currently, the 6th grade team is tentatively getting a field trip to UGA scheduled for our students on April 3rd. We are looking for about 10 parents to help chaperon the trip. If you would like to help chaperon and go with our students, please email Ms. Archer (archerm@clarke.k12.ga.us) for anymore information!

Upcoming Classroom Guidance
As a part of Georgia Law under Senate Bill 401, the Clarke County School District is implementing a classroom lesson titled, My Body, My Boundaries, in grades 6-9 to teach child sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention. Teachers and school counselors facilitating the lesson have been trained to provide this important information to your student. If you would prefer your child not participate in the My Body, My Boundaries Lesson, please sign and return the opt out letter that was sent home by March 22, 2019, and return it to your student’s teacher. 6th Grade students will receive this lesson on March 25, 2019 in their science classrooms.
