6th Grade News April 8 - 12, 2019

General News
Milestone Testing Dates
Please be advised of the following dates scheduled for Georgia Milestone testing:

Orchestra Concert
There will be an Orchestra Concert on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 6:30 PM in the Cedar Shoals Fine Arts Theatre. Please come out for a night of wonderful music! Students should arrive by 6:00 to tune.

The Spring Concert will feature ALL Hilsman Orchestra Students. Please invite friends and family to enjoy the concert!  Students should report to the orchestra room at Cedar Shoals between 5:45-6:00 already dressed and ready to perform.  Students will need to bring their own violins and violas with them that day. Students with home cellos and basses may bring them.  School instruments will be provided for students without a cello or bass. Concert attire consists of a black collared shirt and black or khaki pants or skirts.  Please no shorts or short skirts. No hoodies.

Saturday School & PSP
Both Saturday School and PSP have concluded. A huge shoutout to those students who showed up to get help and the teachers who supported them!

Awards Day
Please go ahead and mark on your calendars that Monday, May 13 @6:00pm will be the 6th Grade Awards Ceremony. This will be held at the Hilsman New Gym. More information and invites will be sent out soon!

No School
Please note that April 15th is a holiday. There will be no school the following Monday.

Content News
Math
Starting Monday students will be learning about coordinate planes. They will have a unit review and then their unit test. Milestones prep on Friday. 
  • Binder checks on Friday
  • Tutoring with Mr. Smith will be held on Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 7:30-8:00am.

ELA
In ELA, students are still expected to read every 
night and record it in their reading log. The poetry unit
conclude this week with a test on Tuesday. Students 
will then turn their attention to reading and 
comprehension strategies. If students have concerns 
about grades or extra credit, please reach out to his or
her ELA teacher.

Science
Students are continuing with Unit 5--Weather and Climate. Students will be discussing the last topic of Unit 5 this week--Severe Weather.
  • Binder checks on Thursday
  • Students are working on a severe weather webquest that is due this Friday, April 12th. This webquest accounts for 3 classwork grades. (Ms. Rohrbach's class only!)
  • Tutoring with Ms. Rohrbach on Tuesday from 4:00-5:00pm. 

Social Studies
Students are still studying Canada's economy and history. They will take their Canada test on Friday, April 12th.

  • Unit test over Canada on Friday
  • Tutoring/Make-up Day with Ms. Archer on Tuesdays from 3:50 - 5:00pm. 

Spanish
Students will be starting the last unit of the class-El calendario (The calendar). It will include numbers 1-31, days of the week, months of the year, the date, weather, and seasons. 
  • Tutoring with Ms. Willingham on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:00pm - 5:30pm. 
Advanced Spanish
Students will be starting the last unit of the class-El cuerpo (The body). It will include parts of the body and expressions used at doctor's visits.
  • Tutoring with Ms. Willingham on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:00pm - 5:30 pm.
**Please note that students in the Online Spanish class may come to tutoring with Ms. Willingham or Ms. Viera on Mondays from 4:00 - 5:30.

AVID Elective students are starting their Career Portfolio Project. Due dates and any other information are on Google Classroom.
