Progress Reports
Progress Reports were handed out on Friday, April 26th. Please take the time to look over and check your students' grades. We have 3 weeks remaining in school and although that time is short, that is also time for students to get their final grades up for the year. Please continue to talk to your child about focusing and staying on top of assignments for the year. If you have any questions/concerns, there is a full list of 6th grade teachers/emails at the bottom of the blog and please check Infinite Campus often!

Band Concert
There will be a band concert on Monday, May 6th, 2019 at 6:30pm. The concert will be held at the Cedar Shoals High School Theater.

Summer Program Opportunities
Join us in the Hilsman Cafeteria on May 1st from 6:00-7:30 pm for an informational session about many fun activities and educational opportunities for middle school students this summer. You will hear from guest speakers, take home flyers, and have the chance to register your students! A light dinner will be served; feel free to bring the whole family.

Science
Students in Mr. Watkins/Ms. Fox's class will take their Unit 5 assessment on Monday, April 29, 2019. After that, they will begin working on Unit 6/7 for the rest of the year. This unit covers seasons, moon phases, and planets. Students in Ms. Rohrbach's room will finish covering seasons and will begin moon phases on Friday. Students who need to retake their Unit 5 Test will do so on Thursday, May 2nd. Students will have a quiz over seasons on Friday, May 3rd.

Advanced Spanish
Students will continue studying the last unit of the class-El cuerpo (The body). There will be a vocabulary test over "el cuerpo y la cara" on Friday, May 3rd. A study guide will be given out in class on May 2nd.

College or Career Shirt Day: Monday 4/22
Students are encouraged to wear a college or career t-shirt with uniform bottoms. Please make sure college or career is visible. Solid colors are not allowed.

ELA
We are reviewing and preparing for Milestones and 
MAP testing. We are encouraging students to ask for 
help, extra credit work, and make up work. Students 
should be reading every night. We are using fun 
games to help review for some of the material, and 
we are reading articles and answering questions to 
practice reading comprehension. We are also using 
ReadTheory and CommonLit to reinforce test taking 
strategies and reading comprehension.

Science
Students in Ms. Rohrbach's classes will take their Unit 5 test on Monday. This is due to the fact that our classes were messed up last week because of Milestones. On Tuesday, students will begin our last unit of science for the year--Patterns in Space. This unit will cover seasons, moon phases, and planets with information about space. Mr. Watkins and Ms. Fox's class will review and finish up Unit 5 this week.

6th Grade News April 8 - 12, 2019

General News

Orchestra Concert
There will be an Orchestra Concert on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 6:30 PM in the Cedar Shoals Fine Arts Theatre. Please come out for a night of wonderful music! Students should arrive by 6:00 to tune.

The Spring Concert will feature ALL Hilsman Orchestra Students. Please invite friends and family to enjoy the concert!  Students should report to the orchestra room at Cedar Shoals between 5:45-6:00 already dressed and ready to perform.  Students will need to bring their own violins and violas with them that day. Students with home cellos and basses may bring them.  School instruments will be provided for students without a cello or bass. Concert attire consists of a black collared shirt and black or khaki pants or skirts.  Please no shorts or short skirts. No hoodies.

Saturday School & PSP
Both Saturday School and PSP have concluded. A huge shoutout to those students who showed up to get help and the teachers who supported them!

Awards Day
