GENERAL NEWS:

Q1 Progress Reports
Teachers will be posting grades on Wednesday this week for Quarter 1 Progress Reports, which will be mailed home shortly after. These provide the 4.5 week notice of how your child is progressing in their classes for this quarter. If you have questions or concerns about your child's grades, please reach out to your child's teacher(s) - a full 6th grade faculty contact list is provided at the bottom of this blog. Please check Infinite Campus frequently so that we can address any academic concerns early!

Hilsman's Got Talent!

Start getting excited for Hilsman's first ever episode of Hilsman's Got Talent! Premiering on Friday, October 16th, tune in to see our HMS teachers show off some of their many hidden talents. We will also announce student winners for Students of the Month, Trail Blazer Awards, and more. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more info!

How Can I Stay Updated?

Check your email. Hilsman will use Campus Messenger to email parents/guardians all school-wide announcements. Follow these directions to sign up:

Go to bit.ly/ccsdportal1 to learn how to create a parent portal account (Spanish version: bit.ly/ccsdportal1esp)
Update your Campus Messenger settings with the directions at bit.ly/messengersettings

Sign up for the Hilsman PTO page for more frequent updates. Search Facebook for "Hilsman Middle School PTO, Athens GA"
Check Google Classroom for class announcements.

Google Classroom

This will be your child's "home base!" All materials and assignments will be posted to Google Classroom, which is our school-wide platform. Assignments, instructions, calendars, emails, and Zoom links will be posted in each student's Google Classroom account. Students must check Google Classroom every day!

How Can I Support My Student?

You are the most important person in helping your student succeed, and we want you to partner with us so we can help students be as successful as possible.

Help your student establish a routine that includes a consistent bedtime and wake-up time.
Help them establish a consistent place to work during class with a table/desk.
Help your student find a consistent place for school materials so they always know where their materials are. Help them organize their materials and/or papers for each class.
Headphones will be very helpful if there is more than one student attending class from home.

Fridays are Student Support Days - No Class

Classes will not meet on Fridays. Teachers will still be available at their usual Zoom links for additional support and tutoring, and teachers will also be assigning work for students to complete on their own. For specific times for when teachers are available, please see below:
