Hilfest - THANK YOU
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all parents, students, staff, and community members for an amazing and successful first Hilfest in our new building! As a new teacher to Hilsman, this was an incredible experience and it was made possible thanks to our amazing Panther Family! THANK YOU :)
Community Health Night 2019 @ the Hilsman Healthcare Center
The doctor is in at Hilsman and Gaines! All students and staff at Gaines Elementary will soon have easy access to sick visits, well visits, immunizations, dental services, counseling services, and more.
The Hilsman Healthcare Center, located behind the gym, will have its grand opening on October 8th, and will coincide with CCSD's Community Health Night! The overall goal of Community Health Night is to connect families with local health resources. Last year, we had a variety of health and wellness related vendors including asthma & diabetes educators, vision & dental resources, the Clarke County Health Department, National EMS, behavioral health providers, exercise and nutrition resources, and many more. We had over 75 vendors and 500+ attendees!
Fall Picture Day
Fall Picture Day will be THIS FRIDAY, October 11, 2019. Please be sure your student is in uniform! Flyers will be sent home this week with more information.
Parent Conferences
On Wednesday, October 16th, students will be dismissed early and teachers will hold conferences until 8pm. On Thursday, October 17th, students are off all day and teachers will hold conferences from 8:00am - 8:00pm. There is no school for students or teachers on Friday, October 18th. You will be receiving more information from your student's homeroom teacher soon as they begin to schedule conferences for each student.

Content News
Math News: - Monday we will be having a Quiz on ratios, unit rates, and equivalent ratios.
- Tuesday and Wednesday we will be doing unit conversion.
- Thursday and Friday we will be find percents of a number.
- Accelerated Math will have a Test on Tuesday!
Beginning Wednesday October 9th, Mr. Smith will be offering tutoring in his room from 7:30-8 every Wednesday morning. Anyone is welcome.
ELA News:

Students in Watkins' and Holland's classes will have a Unit Test on Thursday, October 10th.
Social Studies News:
Students will continue their exploration of European Government and Economies of the United Kingdom, Germany, and Russia.
Connections News
All 9-Week Connections Classes will change this week! Make sure your grade is where it needs to be, and check your schedule for your new class starting Monday.
Band News:
Band Concert: Monday, October 14 at 6:30 in the Hilsman Gymnasium!
- Band students are required to attend.
- Students need to arrive at 6:10.
- Concert uniform is khahi pants and the black band polo (or a plain black polo).
- Concert will last around 45 minutes and students need to stay for the entire concert.
Family and Consumer Science:
We will spend the first week together learning procedures and routines, figuring out what Family and Consumer Science is all about, and learning how we can demonstrate employability skills at school and in our daily lives.
Spanish News:
We will spend the first week reviewing the syllabus, getting to know each other, and discussing Spanish speaking countries around the world.
