F2F Students Return This Week

Hilsman will reopen for in-person learning this Monday, March 22! Virtual learning will continue to be an an option offered for all all students. Please see below for more details about our reopening:

All Virtual Students Will Be Asynchronous on Monday 3/22

There will be no Zoom classes for virtual students on Monday -- instead, teachers will post asynchronous assignments on Google Classroom for students to work on independently. This is because much of Monday will be spent going over new rules and procedures with our face-to-face students as we get used to returning to the building.

F2F Bell Schedule

Now that some students are returning to the building, the class schedule is changing to reflect a more typical school day. Note that this is the same schedule we were following while we were back in the building in November and December. Virtual students will be dismissed 5 minutes early from each class period as F2F students sanitize their areas (this means that virtual students will still have about 8 minutes in between classes as they do now).

Bus Transportation App

The Edulog Parent Portal mobile app provides the latest information on the planned time and location of the student’s school bus stop. It can show the school bus position and give an alert as the bus nears the bus stop.

Download the Edulog Parent Portal from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Search for “Edulog Parent Portal” and choose the app with the blue/white icon. Once you have the app downloaded, sign up using your email address. Make sure you have the student name, DOB, school, and student ID number. Click here for additional information.

Student Meals

CCSD will continue to provide free student meals during virtual learning (either at curbside locations or via bus routes). Please click here to view community food resources for families.

The Northeast Health District has a free COVID-19 testing and vaccination drive-through at 355 Oneta Street in Athens. Appointments are required. Click here or call 706-340-0996 to make an appointment.

Technology Updates

Students and Families, remember to pick up your devices as soon as possible after you are contacted and made aware of their availability. Also, please be aware that our library and technology staff are experiencing alarmingly high rates of repair requests, and are running low on replacement devices for students. Please be sure you are taking extra care with your devices and their charges as well. If students are having technology issues, please fill out this form. Mrs. Neace and Mrs. Gonzalez are working around the clock to address each request and help make sure everyone's devices are working properly!

LSGT Elections

Bring your voice to vision and help to improve student achievement in our schools! Parents/guardians, families, and community members interested in running for a seat on a Local School Governance Team (LSGT), please remember that you must attend one of 3 candidate information sessions, which will be held:

GoGuardian Parent App Now Available

On Monday Feb. 22, the GoGuardian Parent App will be available to all families. This app will allow parents and guardians the opportunity to monitor their child's browsing activity, as well as control over school-issued devices during out-of-school hours. More info will be shared by the district on Monday.

Milestones Testing

Per the state board of education, we will be taking the 2021 Georgia Milestones this spring. This means that all students must take the Milestones tests UNLESS their parent/guardian OPTS THEM OUT OF TESTING. Families may choose to opt their child out of testing with no penalty.

So that we can create a safety plan for students who will be taking the tests in-person at Hilsman, we need to know the exact number of students who will be participating. We are asking all families to fill out the following Google Form in order to help us create our testing plan:

2021 Milestones Preference Decision

Families are also welcome to contact their child's teacher(s) or administrators with their decision to opt out of Milestone testing.

Check your email. Hilsman will use Campus Messenger to email parents/guardians all school-wide announcements.
