Saturday School
Saturday School will begin on February 2nd. This is an excellent opportunity for ALL students to prepare for the Georgia Milestones by working with their teachers in a relaxed, small-group setting. Saturday School will operate on a rotating schedule so that students get to see multiple teachers and review multiple subjects each time. Transportation is also provided. If you would like your child to attend or would like more information, have them get an application from from their teacher, or contact either the front office or Ms. Ward

Family Education Series #4: Nacho Night!
Hilsman Families are invited to join us in the HMS Cafeteria on Wednesday, January 30th from 6-7:30 for a Q&A panel about the parent portal, upcoming testing, teen behavior management strategies, and more!

Career Academy Showcase
The Career Academy Showcase and Community Dinner will take place on Thursday, January 31st. This event is great for those interested in learning about CTAE and other career pathways offered in CCSD and by the Career Academy.
Scoliosis Screening
Scoliosis screening letters went home last week and are due by February 8th with a parent and doctor signature. Nurse Chambers has received several letters that only have a parent signature and not a doctor's. Below is a video for families to view on how the process will go at school on February 26th and 27th.

Math
Math
In preparation for the upcoming Georgia Milestones Assessment; sixth grade students will be given a weekly big 20 in Mathematics which will be due each Friday. This will count as a homework assignment. The expectation is for every student to be proficient (80% or higher).
The 6th grade math department also use Friday's as a Milestones prep day. Sample questions are provided and students are provided with ample think time before responding. Students are encouraged to practice their speed and math facts at home.
Please assist your child and encourage him or her to complete and submit the assignment on time.
If there are any questions feel free to contact your child's Math teacher. The standard that students will cover this week is 6.G.4: Represent three-dimensional figures using nets made up of rectangles and triangles, and use the nets to find the surface area of these figures. Apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.

ELA
Students need to continue to do their reading logs. We will be writing an informational essay Monday-Wednesday. Thursday and Friday we will read our novel Hatchet and take focused notes.

Students in Ms. Rohrbach's class will continue Unit 4, learning about Earth's oceans, including subsurface topography and ocean motions. Mr. Watkins/Ms. Fox's class will review over the water cycle.

Ag Science
Due to class splits while Mrs. Martin was at Regional Science Fair- SAE Checks will be on Monday! No excuses you have another 2 days to finish 1 hour and take 1 picture of you working on your project. There are tons of resources and videos posted on Google Classroom.
FFA:
FFA Meeting Tuesday January 29. The leadership team is going to playing fun games all related to the number 19 for our New Year Party Meeting! Leaders please let me know what your game will be on the post on Google Classroom by Sunday Night!
